Our School Day
Our school day starts at 8:45am prompt and finishes at 3:15pm- although there are opportunities for children to stay later as we have a variety of afterschool clubs on offer.
By 8:30am, the gates to the front playground are open for children, parents and carers to come onto the site safely. Staff are present on the playground to welcome everyone. The doors to the school are open and children will come in to their classroom to prepare themselves, ready to learn.
Our mornings start with Reading. This is held as a high priority in our school where sessions take on different forms throughout the week. We focus on fluency, extended reading and comprehension. Alongisde this, our youngest children take part in Phonics. Reading then moves into our English session for the day which includes spelling and handwriting.
At 10:30am, there is a short fifteen-minute break where children can enjoy playtime with their friends and have a healthy snack. Children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 have fruit provided for them.
After play, we move into 'Number Sense' sessions for 15 minuties where we focus on number and fluency, and then our daily Maths sessionÂ
From 12:00pm, the children eat their lunch together in the hall. When they have finished, they have playtime on the playground – and in dry conditions we use the field. We have trained Y6 Playground Leaders who organise games and equipment over the lunchtime – these are different each day.
During the afternoon, through our Enquiry Curriculum, all the remaining foundation and core subjects are taught.Â
Our assemblies are held at the end of the day and include a value based, leadership assembly, singing assembly, love reading assembly and Open the Book.
The day finishes with a story
The children will then be handed safely over to their parents and carers.Â
If children are taking part in an after-school club then they will be handed over at the front gates at 4:00pm or 4:15pm
