Delabole Primary School

Our Curriculum Statement

Our Curriculum at Delabole Primary School:

At Delabole, we believe that every child deserves an education that is ambitious, engaging and inclusive. Our curriculum has been carefully designed to develop children's knowledge, skills and understanding, whilst nurturing the confidence, resilience and curiosity they need to thrive in an ever-changing world.

Learning is built around carefully chosen enquiry questions that encourage children to think critically, explore different viewpoints and make meaningful connections across their learning. Through investigation, discussion and discovery, children are supported to become active participants in their own learning journey.

We value the unique context of our local community whilst ensuring children develop an understanding of the wider world beyond it. Through rich vocabulary, high-quality texts, memorable experiences and purposeful learning opportunities, we aim to inspire children, broaden horizons and foster a lifelong love of learning.

Most importantly, we believe that every child should be able to access and succeed within the curriculum. Through inclusive practice, strong universal provision and high-quality teaching, we work to remove barriers to learning and ensure that all children feel valued, supported and challenged. Our aim is for every child to leave Delabole as a confident learner who is prepared for the next stage of their education and beyond.

Our Cycle Overviews can be found below:

To support the needs of our mixed-age classes, learning is organised into curriculum cycles. Our Year 2/3/4 class follows a third cycle to ensure that children experience a broad, balanced and progressive curriculum, without unnecessary repetition as they move through the class.

Learning Warrior Tool Kit:

Children are supported in developing independence and metacognitive skills through our Learning Toolkit — a set of learning dispositions that help them understand how to ‘learn to learn.’ Our tool-kit consists of:

·       Curiosity

·       Independence,

·       Empathy

·       Resilience

·       Leadership

·       Participation

·       Risk-taking

These are taught both explicitly through whole school assemblies, as well as throughout learning. Children are recognised in our weekly Tribe Assembly to be a ‘Learning Warrior’ if they have shown they have used an aspect of the learning tool kit to support them.

Life Long Learners:

Our curriculum has been designed to be interactive and engaging, making full use of both indoor and outdoor spaces to bring concepts to life. Carefully chosen high quality texts sit at the heart of our curriculum, enriching learning and inspiring a love of reading for life.

Most importantly, our curriculum is designed to empower every learner and build the knowledge and skills needed for success in an ever-changing world. Through inclusive practice and high expectations, we ensure that every child feels valued, challenged, and supported to achieve their full potential. By weaving together discovery, creativity and a love of learning, we prepare our pupils not only for academic achievement but for life - confident, resilient and ready to make a positive difference
