8th February

This week the children have been stepping into the shoes of a character from their guided reading book, The Sleeping Sword. They tried to imagine what it felt like to have become unexpectantly unable to see overnight, and how reliant they would feel on their trusted friends. They discovered how suddenly very simple tasks like crossing a room and picking up a pencil could feel very daunting and disorientating.

The children have been writing poems using a dragon to capture the essence of a thought immerging out of “writer’s block” based on The Thought Fox by Ted Hughes. They have designed and painted a dragon’s eye using techniques such as tone and reflection, to illustrate their final poem.
