Class 2 have been exploring the story of ‘Jim and the Beanstalk’ over the past few weeks. Today, they read the whole story for the first time and practised reading the book to each other in their pairs, using a fabulously fierce giant’s voice!

In Forest Friends session, we had the challenge of making a shelter big enough to fit a child inside! We thought about how people from the Stone Age might have used sticks and animal skins to create a home or temporary shelter. We then worked in groups using long poles and tarps.

In Forest Friends we created animal shelters. The children collected sticks, bark and fallen leaves and used the materials to create a shelter in which they could fit a toy animal. It was wonderful to see how resilient the children were given how windy and muddy it was!

Cl 1 have been investigating materials & linking it to their Stone Age learning. They worked in groups with a given material to create a shelter for a Cave Man. They discussed how to make it a fair test, to make a shelter that kept out the rain & would withstand the wind.

Class 2 have been investigating 3-dimensional shapes this week. The children experimented with creating 3D shapes using a variety of materials and used different shaped wooden blocks to create sturdy structures!

Cl 2 children had to be detectives this week. They arrived to find a crime scene, some very large footprints & a range of suspects. After analysing the evidence & listening to the suspect’s alibis they finally found out who the culprit was, but it was not who they were expecting!

Our Beautiful Tapestry of Learning - We have launched straight into 2023 and this term’s value is Honesty and our enquiry question to deepen our children’s understanding is 'How are there two sides to every story? ' The school is already a buzz with learning, joy and wonder.
